Worth Looking At:  For Life Onlus -
"Help support Combonian Missionaries from the Combonian Fathers Village in Kotido, Karamoja in Northern Uganda. For Life Onlus Charity help communities improve their management of natural resources, by introducing livelihood diversification, drought control, formal education,
livestock health programmes, disease control , marketing local products, preventive health services, development and management of water
sources.. Each year our gala fundraising events and donations provides essential income and support for the For Life Onlus Charity and
the people of Karamoja."   They have a terrific webpage - worth looking at.

Quote worth noting -
“When you count in general, you can find statistics numbering the total of orphans around two million or 7% of the population! According to
avert.org the number of orphans due to HIV/AIDS is 51%.  The immediate following contributing factor however is MALARIA.” Children’s Welfare Center

Status of Uganda Inter-country adoption -
Depending on where you look you either have a 3 yr stay in country, or things have changed.  Holt's webpage on Uganda mentions this.  I haven't been able to find it on the web.  Bit I did find this speech from 2004.  I'm (not sure who gave it, but it was given in Washington DC onJune 17, 2004
(Here's the link - it's cached, and when I try to pull it up, it give's me something else, so I have copied the last couple of paragraphs -

"Finally, let me say a word about intercountry adoption. President Museveni graciously received our delegation, and we had the opportunity to explain
our position. Namely, the coalition feels that children flourish with loving families, but suffer in institutions. Of course, Uganda's traditional culture would normally absorb orphaned children in precisely the way we think is most appropriate-first with their family, secondarily within their community.
However, we feel that where these social systems have been overwhelmed, as they have been in Uganda, a country should consider the option of international adoption. We believe that a nation can have no better ambassador to the United States than a child who has been adopted into a U.S. family and now has an active interest in their home country. We have seen it in China, Korea, and Russia. The process of intercountry adoption simply connects Americans to another country in a way they otherwise never would be.

So with these thoughts in mind, President Museveni has agreed to review our request that Uganda ratify the Hague Convention on Intercountry
Adoption. International adoption is not going to be a solution to the very important tasks ahead of Uganda. However, in the lives of the children
who find parents this way, intercountry adoption will be a true blessing."
