A Must See - Link a Child, LTD - aninitative aimed at increasing the awareness of the plight of orphans by dissipating information available to potential donors through various avenues. LINKACHILD act only as a link by discovering the orphanages, solicit for support directly to the institutions in need.  Has a great list of orphanages, descriptions, and sorted alphabetically and by state.  Really worth a look!

Note - Residencey Requirements. From the State Dept Webpage:-
"Adoptive parents should plan on residing in Nigeria for at least a 3-month period...In general, foreigners who intend to adopt a specific child must
first obtain temporary custody of the child (i.e., foster care). Foster care requirements differ from Nigerian state to state, and can be as long as
one year before an adoption will be granted. Other states have citizenship or other requirements to adopt"

Stage One: First meeting: This is the meeting between you and the adoption facilitator (Hearts of Gold). This is when application is done and
interview is conducted about the type of child you are looking to adopt. You will be required to bring with you four recently taken passport
photograph of yourself and your spouse (if married), with your name written at the back of the photograph.

Stage Two : First Home Visit: Once we are satisfied with all the references, you will be notified and a date will be agreed for a home visit.
This is to ascertain the genuinety of your claims.

Stage Three : Documentation Requirements: Once we are happy about the report of the home visit, you will be asked to forward the following documents:
Certified birth certificates for each adoptive parents
Certified marriage certificate and/or divorce papers
Medical examination for each adoptive parent
Police clearance forms stating that each adoptive parent has no criminal record.
Report of home visit by Labour Officers
Photograph of the adoptive parents and their home
Letter from your lawyer (legal representative)
Evidence of financial capability

For applicants living outside Nigeria , please note that you can apply on-line but you will be required to make physical appearance to complete the adoption process (Please note that this is a legal requirement. You also need to find out about the immigration requirements of your countries).
* Please note that two sets of your documents need to be supplied.

Stage Four: If you supply all the documents mentioned above and everything is in order, you are mid through the adoption process.

Stage Five: You will be required to appear in court for the final adoption papers to be signed.

Stage Six: After a decision has been made and you are successful, you will be notified in writing

Stage Seven and final: Monthly home visits for a period of six months to see how the baby is settling down and adjusting the his/her new home environment. You will then sign a discharge note.

“The children who are from Nigeria available for adoption have sometimes a handicap, as a result of which they are undesirable for local adoption.
The ages vary from some months up to 6 years. Except couples also singles can adopt as well as only applicants within a relationrelation relation. However homosexual adoption is not permitted. It has not been permitted however a man adopt a little girl. Also in practice has proven to be that one does not wish place if it concerns a sixth child in a family.”

“One must both travel to Nigeria, the stay duration is approximately 5.5 à 6.5 yielded. After the lawsuit, which takes place approximately two weeks after arrival, can, if required, one or both parents travel back to come obtain later the child. "
