Adoption Procedure (machine translated from the French Diplomatic Webpage)
Children adopted in 2005 : 7
Decree 66 259 of 27 July 1966 fixing composition court d’appel of Bangui.

Exigences relative to adopting - Prospective parents must be at least 40 years old. However, two married people with one at least 35 years old and who have been married for more than 10 years can adopt.  The adoptive parents must be at least 15 years old of difference with child. This difference can be brought back to 10 years, by exemption of the Chief of Statet, if adopting the child of a spouse.  Adopting parents must have neither child, nor legitimate descendant.   Note : the couples being able to produce a certificate of sterility have priority.

Requirements relating to the adoptees
  - Decision of the type I known as " adoption " - Orphan must be a child without filiation known or orphan or declared abandoned judicially or a child whose legal parents or representatives validly agreed to the adoption. If  the child is old of more than 15 years, it must give its personal assent to the adoption.

- Decision of the type II known as " adoptive legitimation " - Child must be old less than five years, to be given up by his/her parents or of
which those unknown or died.

PROCEDURE
The file for the Central African authorities must be composed of the following parts :
- Approval and social investigation of the services of l’A.S.E. (Home Study)
- Letter of motivation,
- Birth Certificate for each member of the family,
- Marriage Certificate
- Police clearance letter
- Medical certificates of good moral and physical health,
- Employment letter
- Certificate on the financial circumstances (informal agreement stipulating the amount of the incomes, the real goods in possession and any
   other useful further information),
- Certificate of nonfruitfulness (letter stating sterile or no children)
- Certificate d’un friendly relative or d’un of assumption of responsibility of child in the event of death of the parents, (guardianship letter)
- Letter stating you will provide post placement reports
- Photographs.

The file must be 1 original file and 3 copies.   The documents legalized by the consular services of l’Ambassade of Central Africa

Local procedure
The files must be addressed to the Committee for the adoption. This one meets once per month.  Once the accepted file, the candidates for the adoption is informed ; the dossier of adopting as that of child can be presented near the Court of Bankruptcy of Bangui. The families appear in person. They can, with authorization of the judge, to be made represent by an agent.   The time period for a decision is 15 days as from the notification made with the parts, carried in person in two months if the notification is carried out with the chief of Village or the applicant's permanent address.   The judge can shorten these times in case of emergency.
